The last weekend of September 2002 was spent camping, with our good friends Mike and Kris Aguilar, at Lassen Volcanic National Park. On Saturday, we took a short hike to Bumpass (pronounced Bump-us) Hell. If you ever wanted to know what rotting eggs smells like, but can't afford 100,000 cartons of eggs, then come here. Despite the noxious fumes, the area is beautiful. After our hike, we went back to camp, ate dinner, and played Cribbage. By the way, it was Ken & Carol's first time playing the game, and Carol won, hee hee. On Sunday, we ate breakfast, and broke camp. Mike and Kris went home, while Ken and Carol went to climb Lassen Peak -- Mommy... 2.5 miles, one way, on a 15% grade. It took us about 2 hours and 10 minutes to make it to the top. What was the climb like? Has anyone ever climbed Mount Fuji? Desolated, 50 mile an hour winds, cold, and begging chipmunks. Well, Fuji didn't have the begging chipmunks. Heavy mist and smog hung over the peak all day, so when we did manage to get to the top, we didn't see much. I didn't think the hike was really worth it; if the day was clearer, it probably would have been. Click on a thumbnail below.

do you like it?

Here, Mike shows off a lovely model, only used once.
