| Can
you believe it? I can't. It's been 10 years since we said our
"I do's", and to celebrate this mind boggling occasion we
drove up to Ft. Bragg and hung out by Northern California's
beautiful coast. Sorry east coast, but the northwest coastline has
you beat hands down! We drove up California's famous Highway 1.
Although the view was breath taking, my tummy just couldn't handle
the very windy roads. Our first stop was at The Fort Ross State
Historic Park, that was pretty cool. While walking along the path to
the fort, we saw a buck. Actually, Ken saw it, I just barely caught
a glimpse of it as it turned and ran away. After we wandered around
the park for a while we continued up Hwy 1 to Ft Bragg and the Glass
House Inn B & B. The house was very cool and the lady who ran
the house, Nancy, was super nice. She gave us a small box of
chocolates for our anniversary, too cool. I highly recommend this B
& B if you're staying in the Ft. Bragg area.
The next day we
took a half day train trip on the California Western Skunk Train,
and no, it didn't smell like a skunk. The Skunk Train was a very pleasant
experience, I especially enjoyed it because I love to ride trains.
We even had a treat in store for us, the Train Singer gave our car a
mini concert.
That night we
drove into Mendocino for dinner at Restaurant 955. I highly
recommend this restaurant! The food was outstanding and their
deserts were worth drooling over. Ken and I had the bread pudding
for desert... WOW, it was delicious! I don't believe this restaurant
has a web site, but if you're interested in eating here it's located
on Ukiah Street. The name of the restaurant is also the address,
cute hu?
The next morning
we woke up kind of early. We had breakfast then headed down to Glass
Beach to hunt for, what else, glass. Over the past 30 years or so,
the locals used this beach to dispose of their trash. It was mainly
glass, china, bottles, car parts, and stuff. Over the years with the surf pounding
against the broken glass it smoothed the edges so you wind up with a
glass pebble. Blue is the hardest colour to find, but we managed to scrounge
up a few pieces. Green, white, and brown were in abundance.
On our drive
home, we stopped at Chandelier Tree. It's a rather large redwood
which you can drive your car through, O-o, ah.
Anyhoot, that's
about it. Enjoy the pictures we have for you. And hopefully
one day you will get the change to visit this beautiful part of
Northern California. |
