| we're going camping, maybe | What originally was suppose to be a camping trip, but thanks to mother nature, didn't turn out that way.
0600 Saturday morning, the alarm broke our sleep. "Is it raining?" I ask; "yes, go back to sleep", Ken said as he looked out the window. Well, there goes a wonderful weekend away from here. A 4th of July weekend excursion to Fudai had been planned by Ken and some people in his office. All had expected it to rain, CNN weather, local Japanese and AFN news had said it was going to rain. We were a bit optimistic. The plan was: If it rains, we'll call it off, but if it didn't rain, we were going. It rained. But all was not lost, Ken & I just decided to make a day trip of it, tomorrow. It's Sunday, and it's still raining, so we decided against driving 3 hours to Fudai. Instead, we decided to check out the Tanesashi Seacoast. We saw an article in the local base paper about it, and thought it looked interesting. |
| about tanesashi |
Beginning just past Kabushima (Seagull Island), the Tanesashi Seacoast extends about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles). Hiking trails begin at the Ashigezaki (a stone tower) Observatory, then follow the rocky shores and white sandy beach, eventually leading to a broad expanse of grass-covered coastline. The grassy carpeted area of Tanesashi is a nationally designated park which is well known for its recreational sites. The hiking trails are accessible along the length of the coast. During summer months, the Shirahama Beach is crowded with campers, swimmers and fishermen. ~This excerpt courtesy of the 2 July edition of The Insider |
