| This run benefited
the Brother Francis Shelter and Bean's Cafe of Anchorage. It was
very cold and very windy but that didn't stop us from having fun.
Yes, I know--I'm getting slower. That's from lack of running.
Notice, Ken is getting faster! |

| Not my best run by

| No. Moose were not
dropped out of airplanes like one PETA person assumed they were to
be. The 33rd Annual Moose Dropping (poop) Festival 5k Fun Run was a
hoot. Not my personal best run, but better than the last..
Here's a story in the Anchorage Daily News about the run. |

| The Mayor's Midnight
Sun Marathon is one of the most important races in Alaska! People
from all 50 states, different countries and several provinces in
Canada made their way to Anchorage to run. I ran the 5 mile race,
and Ken was part of a relay team who ran the marathon. The route was
very nice and scenic. Part of the race was on the Tony Knowles
trail. My time would have been just a little bit quicker if not for
the slow start. There were a lot of people, plus a lot of walkers in
front of the runners. If you decide to walk in a 5k, 10k, 5
miler...whatever, PLEASE... stand way in the back of the starting
line BEHIND the runners. It's a safety thing, you wouldn't want the
runners to trip over you or push you out of their way. Plus, it's
annoying. Just common race etiquettes people.
Here's a story in the Anchorage Daily News about the marathon. |

| This was our first
official race in Alaska and it hurt. At least I thought so. We had
not been running any serious long runs in about a month. We've
pretty much kept to 2-3 miles. Notice our pace time from the St
Patrick's run compared to this race. We got slow! This was a very
nice race though. It ran on the Tony Knowles Trail, starting at
Point Woronzof. The trail winded in and around the woods along the
Cook inlet. We ran right by a moose at one point, but he, or she
didn't pay much attention to us. |

| A short little race
that was held on base. Something to do after the half. 3.1 miles is
cake compared to 13.1 miles. This is my personal best for a 5k! I
even came in first place out of all the women! Of course, there were
only 4 of us. Ken's not too sure what he placed out of all the men,
but the race results should be printed in the base paper next
Friday. If they are, I'll post them that night. |

| The longest damn
race we've been in! I felt great after I finished. Ken was hurting a
little. Just proves that the older you are, the better! We've
trained for this event for 9 weeks with
J Street Fleet Feet.
Our trainers were Stacy, Dusty, and Nick. They were awesome!
Photos soon to come! |

| Our second race!
This is an annual race for really nothing in particular, that I can
tell, except for this year. The race was dedicated to a young man
named Juan Angel, who died in a car accident in the beginning of the
year. He loved the Running of the Elves and raced in it almost every
year since he was, I think, 12. It was a fun race, Ken thinks I
place 3rd or 4th in my age group. Not surprising since there were
only about 70 people who ran. There were a couple of people there,
who were using the race as a warm up to a marathon they were running
the next day. We haven't received the final results yet; so we
don't know where we placed. Check this spot often for that
information! |

| This was our very
first timed race, and we had a blast! The only down side was that
there were a large amount of walkers that started in the 'timed
runners' position, so we didn't really start our running pace for
about 1/4-1/2 mile in. If we didn't have all of the walkers in front
of us, our times probably would have been a little faster.
See a picture of Carol from the run.
Here's another one of Ken, Carol, and
Bill (an Airman that works with Ken). |
